INDUSTRY (INDÚSTRIA) is a community-based artistic creation project conceived by Filipa Francisco and promoted by Mundo em Reboliço, which draws on the memory of work—its gestures, rhythms, and spaces—to activate, through art, a dialogue between the past, present, and future.
Combining dance, music, and the participation of people from local communities, INDÚSTRIA is a site-specific and relational piece in which the territory becomes living material for creation.
The project originated in 2024, in Marinha Grande, with the show “De Vidro e Mar” (Of Glass and Sea). Listening to the communities in the region, collecting stories, and activating gestures linked to the glass industry gave rise to a collective dramaturgy that brought together professional artists, associations, bands, choirs, and people from the community in a process of co-authorship, where the political and the social intersect.
The experience revealed the potential of the format, due to its capacity for listening and local mobilization, and motivated the development of a version adaptable to other contexts, in municipalities with industrial traditions: ceramics, canning, mining, weaving, metallurgy, cork, among others.
Artistic and methodological vision
The project is based on the principle of participatory co-creation. Each edition starts from a direct relationship with the history and knowledge of the territory where it is set. Voices are heard, words are collected, practices are shared. Bodies retain the gestures of work and the dramaturgy is constructed from the concrete material of the place.
The show, in its final form, is a journey: a collective and sensory journey that starts from a symbolic space (an old factory, a warehouse, a street), crosses the urban space in the form of a walk/demonstration, and culminates on stage. Along this journey, layers are added: voices, sounds, bodies in motion, objects, images, and memories.
Each version of INDÚSTRIA is unique. In each territory, a method is activated: listening, recognizing, composing with what exists, to conceive a site-specific show with cultural and social impact.
