Soni Drom (from Romani: ‘Dream in Motion’) is an artistic and community initiative aimed at young people from the Roma community in Viseu, promoting inclusion, cultural identity and the development of creative skills. In partnership with Cáritas Diocesana de Viseu, through the Caminhos E9G Project, the project offers weekly workshops in the areas of music, dance, theatre, performance and dramatic expression, led by artists with extensive experience in social inclusion contexts. In addition to the artistic component, these people also take on roles of mediation and facilitation, closely accompanying the participants and fostering confidence, autonomy and expression.
The programme runs from November 2025 to July 2026 and is organised in three phases: training, collective creation and public presentation. In co-creation with the Lugar Presente School, and integrating performers from this school, themes such as confidence in the body and voice, access to one's own imagination, the dignification of identity and the recognition of voices often absent from the public space are explored. The stories of the young participants form the basis for the construction of a final show, where gesture, word and music are articulated in a common narrative.
The activities begin in November with Dramatic Expression Workshops led by Zé Pedro Ramos, giving the first impetus to work on presence, body and confidence. In December, the focus shifts to words, with Lyric Writing Workshops led by Frankão ‘O Gringo Sou Eu’, exploring identity, rhythm and poetry. In January, the body returns with Movement Workshops led by Catarina Keil, complemented by new writing sessions with Frankão, deepening the relationship between gesture and personal narrative
In February, Music Workshops with Ana Bento take centre stage, followed by Body Expression Workshops with Pedro de Aires and Mariana Silva, expanding performative capacity through voice, rhythm and physicality. In March, the cycle of workshops continues and the preparation of materials for collective creation begins. In April, the first artistic residency takes place, with dramaturgy work guided by Bernardo Chatillon and the participation of Marta Coutinho, consolidating the dramaturgical and visual body of the play. In May, new dramaturgy and scenic development sessions deepen the structure of the show. In June, residencies and consolidation rehearsals continue. In July 2026, the result of this journey is presented publicly.
Soni Drom believes in the power of movement and art as a space for listening, belonging and transformation, a process in which each body brings a memory, each voice opens the way and where dreams become movement.
