This piece is a reading from a notebook, is dancing, is action in a space where the audience is witness, character and participant in a journey of myriad voices in a single body.
“In a world where multiplicity, diversity and different voices are suppressed, this is my way of resisting and re-existing through a poetic and political piece.”
In 2003 Filipa Francisco received a scholarship from the International Relations Office of the Ministry of Culture to study dramaturgy and site specific with André Lepecki, in New York City. Once there she met the artist Eleonora Fabião, who was then studying for her doctorate at the New York University. In June 2004 André Lepecki invited a group of artists – Eleonora Fabião, Filipa Francisco, Meg Stuart, William Pope L. and Sophiatou Kossoko – to hold an Artist Lab at the Haus der Kulturen Der Welt, in Berlin. The theme of the laboratory was “Discarded Practices”.
They collaborated in the creation of several performances in the theatre and outdoors, which gave the 2 artists the opportunity to get to know and discuss their interests, working methods and creative processes. In 2006 Filipa Francisco and Idoia Zabaleta invited Eleonora to write for the book “Bicho”, which collects the epistolary relationship of the creative process of the piece “Dueto”. The confluence of views sparked the desire to work together. In 2017 Filipa invited Eleonora for a collaboration and in 2018 they worked during a creative residency in Rio de Janeiro and the solo “partilhas” was created.
