Mila and Firmino are back and this time they bring guests.
This couple has been together since 1996, incessantly slandering the essence of what it means to be Portuguese with an ever-present sense of humour. Nu Meio ComVida is a new version premiering on April 29th at Teatro São Luiz.
NU MEIO could be the lyrical story of an archetypical Portuguese couple formed by Mila (Filipa Francisco) and Firmino (Bruno Cochat). But in this show, they drive us through the politically incorrect, fearlessly and unrestrained. The dialogue between the characters is spicy and full of common places collected just before the presentation, explaining encounters and disagreements with shrill laughter and church songs transformed into an operetta. Donatello Brida provides the music with his accordion.
NU MEIO premiered on April 29 1996, on International Dance Day and celebrates its 29thanniversary. To honour the date, Filipa Francisco and Bruno Cochat conceived a special version for Teatro São Luiz: NU MEIO ComVida, premiering on April 29th.
Each day the first part of the show will be performed by a different guest. An invitation was sent to six artists contemporary to the duo and representatives of Nova Dança Portuguesa: Carlota Lagido, Félix Lozano, Sílvia Real, Sónia Baptista and Margarida Mestre & Miguel Pereira (M&M’s).
On April 29th, Carlota Lagido presents notforgetnotforgive, a 1999 performance where she reflects on memory, forgetting and forgiveness. Rejecting amnesia and using strategies to recover this memory, Carlota Lagido takes a political stance in which there’s no room for forgiveness.
On April 30th, Félix Lozano presents La Guasa. Taking flamenco as a reference, in which “la guasa” is part of the games, jokes and pranks, Lozano proposes a look at the past, with four key words: rediscover, reorganize, revive and relearn.
On May 2nd, Sílvia Real presents Concerto No. 2 para Nu Meio, celebrating the piece's 29th anniversary.
Accompanied by guitarist Ana Sofia Sequeira, Sílvia Real interprets new versions of old songs.
On May 3rd, Sónia Baptista presents I call her will, a personal wandering through a few William Shakespeare's works, chosen on a criterion: “skin” and “intuition”, but also using notes and reflections from other women on Shakespeare’s work to propose a small journey, a reflection of critical will.
On May 4th, Margarida Mestre & Miguel Pereira present M&M’s - now and ever. The duo M&M’s appeared in the underground scene in the 90’s and celebrate their silver anniversary in 2025. They bring songs with spoofed tunes and lyrics that throw the conventions of the woke movement out the window, accompanied by phenomenal choreography, of course.
This presentation will be followed by Nu Meio and, at 5 pm, a Tea Dance, brightened up by DJs Filippo Lippi & Ivan Carlo, to end the celebrations in style.
