Espiões addresses the relationship between performing arts and the construction and transmission of cultural memory from a personal universe. Based on the individual and collective memories of some of the artists in her life — choreographers/performers Francisco Camacho, Miguel Pereira and Sílvia Real — Filipa Francisco identifies a unique heritage in the memory of these choreographers and designs a creative and affirmative gesture in the face of the scarcity of dance archives and documentation in Portugal.
Following previous projects such as Íman, built from the individual memories of African dance and hip-hop performers, or A Viagem, which explores folk dance as a form of connection with the body, Espiões proposes to value an embodied heritage through a confrontation between personal universe and repertoires, and new choreographic gestures.
In an intrinsic echo chamber, the piece can be accompanied by a “My dance museum” cycle, composed of training modules that can be carried out independently or in accumulation, according to the strategic objectives of the partner or host theatre. Taking advantage of the extensive pedagogical experience of all the choreographers on the project, the training offer may include workshops for young dance students or choreographers with Francisco Camacho or Miguel Pereira, intergenerational dance workshops with Filipa Francisco and dance workshops for young people with Sílvia Real. With these we reinforce a personal relationship with the audiences and with the artistic fabric of the performance venues, fostering the appreciation and transformation of dance heritage.
