CAMINHO was based on the biographies and narratives of the population from the municipality of Belmonte, in cocreation with 6 local participants. Filipa Francisco speaks of the visits to these parishes and the interviews with local dwellers before the coronavirus pandemic: “Words and words recorded on video and transcribed onto paper. They all intertwined and spoke of past, present and future. We wrote those words on paper and took a good look. They all spoke of moments of hard work in the mines, agriculture, factories or basket weaving.”
With Covid-19 the project had to be readjusted, but as Filipa argues “out of this Shrovetide we need to find a better Way, a new direction” – and perhaps a better future.
